Job Description:
Job DescriptionThe primary function of the Head Cashier is to manage all checkout functions. This includes processing sales transactions and refunds, upselling or enrolling, monitoring cash drawer amounts, and maintaining checkout area. The Head Cashier is responsible for performing opening procedures such as alarm testing, unlocking doors, and obtaining safety bags for cash registers. In addition, the Head Cashier oversees coverage of registers and store supplies usage. The Head Cashier is also required to provide excellent customer service by addressing customer issues, handling pick-up and internet orders, locating merchandise, and checking on the status of orders. Lastly, the Head Cashier is responsible for completing all other duties as assigned.
ScheduleRequires morning, afternoon, and evening availability any day of the week. Required to work a Corporate schedule determined by Staffing Department, but may be changed by store management based on the needs of the store. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advanced notification and approval by supervisor. Hourly Full Time or Part Time: Generally scheduled 39 to 40 or 10 to 25 hours per week, respectively; more hours may be required based on the needs of the store.
ResponsibilitiesComplies with all safety procedures. Responds to 3-in-Line by ensuring other registers are opened immediately. Prevents loss by monitoring merchandise entering and leaving the store entrances and exits; assisting customers or employees who trigger the alarm, determining cause, and resolving the issue according to the company training guidelines; notifying management of potential issues and when suspicious activity or incidents occur; and deterring shoplifters. Detects common signs of shoplifting, theft, and other security risks, and promptly communicates them to management and/or Loss Prevention. Addresses customer questions and complaints in person or over the phone; and transfers calls as necessary. Greets customers and addresses and/or escalates customer complaints and notifies manager of procedure violations. Processes sales transactions by operating registers; scanning and verifying product information in register; demagnetizing security tags and removing hard security tags; inspecting contents of open items; bagging merchandise; and adjusting to different types of transactions according to company guidelines. Prints order tickets and checks them against merchandise; and ensures customer loads (e.g., large ticket items) are properly checked by verifying receipts and signing off on loading tickets. Complies with all safety procedures, makes note of any safety hazards, and completes daily safety hazmat review (DSHR). Creates break and lunch schedules for cashiers to ensure sufficient coverage at all times. Assists associates and other team members. Sells extended protection plans to customers when appropriate. Process returns/refunds for customers; inquires about returned merchandise to find out if it is damaged; and places faulty slips on returned merchandise. Assists customers in loading their purchase into their car or calls code 50 to get assistance from others in the store. Answers incoming phone calls and directs calls or takes messages as needed. Prepares register area for customer transactions at the beginning and end of shift by confirming functionality of registers and scanners and stocking register supplies (e.g., Register tape). Places completed internet orders into the cage in the internet bay in receiving or Return to Manufacturer (RTM) area for shipping. Enrolls customers in the MyLowes program and activates the card. Monitors the amount of cash in the drawers and makes sure that they do not exceed requirements (e.g., $200); and when necessary, calls Manager on Duty (MOD) to deposit extra cash. Obtains safety bags from the cash office and puts them out at the beginning of the day. Assists customers in picking up internet orders and calls the Assistant Store Manager (ASM) to unlock the cage when necessary. Enters and submits customer orders, including pick-up-later orders. Unlocks doors when the store opens. Provides training on all Lowe's credit policies and procedures and MyLowes. Coaches, develops, and trains associates in the various departmental duties or sales opportunities; and works with other leadership in the facility to resolve issues (e.g., safety, loss prevention) as they arise. Looks up items that do not scan and enters them manually. Assists customers in obtaining pick-up-later orders by loading or unloading merchandise. Records all items that are used in the store on the store use lists. Ensures pick ticket and internet cages are reviewed. Sweeps, cleans glass, and organizes the cash register area. Writes task list, delegates tasks to associates, and verifies completion. Looks up competitor prices for products to verify price match; and looks up product information in system (e.g., Genesis). Calls customers to let them know when their internet orders are ready for pick up. Monitors and addresses associate performance and writes up feedback forms. Checks the register assignment sheet or daily coverage report for the daily station assignment.
Physical Requirements Lifts up to 25 pounds without assistance; may lift up to 30 pounds with or without assistance. Agility : The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, or legs to perform job tasks. This includes the ability to move throughout all areas of the store (e.g., sales floor, receiving, register areas, lawn and garden), Lowe's property surrounding the store, or additional work areas. Climbing : The ability to climb, work, and carry items up and down ladders. Hand-Eye Coordination : The ability to coordinate one's eyes with one's fingers, wrists, or arms to move, carry, or manipulate objects or to perform other job-related tasks. Manual Dexterity : The ability to make quick, accurate, skillful, coordinated movements of one hand, one hand in coordination with its arm, or two hands to grasp, place, move, or assemble objects. Physical Strength : The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications Minimum: 6 months experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information. AND 6 months experience using a handheld device (e.g., mobile phone, LRT gun, palm pilot, tablet, iPod) to enter, access, and output information.
Preferred: Associate's Degree in Business, Retail Management, Specialty related to department (e.g., design, appliances), or related field. 1 year experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs, including credit cards, installations, add-on sales, protection plans, and explaining warranties, product features, and benefits. 1 year retail experience. 1 year experience as a head cashier. 6 months experience working in any department at a Lowe's retail store. 1 year supervisory experience in any field, including directing, delegating, evaluating, training, and coaching employees. 6 months retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting (e.g., merchandise hidden inside of containers, merchandise under carts, price labels switched). 1 year retail experience as a cashier.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
